Why do Cats Yawn? Kitten Yawn

Have you ever wondered why your cat yawns? Does your cat yawn when you greet him after a hard day at work? Are you concerned that your cat yawns due to boredom, or even worse, that they find you boring?  Today, we thought it timely to find the answer to these question and more.

It may not come as a surprise to you that your cat, just like a human, will yawn when transitioning between sleep and alert states. However, did you know that according to CatHealth cats don’t actually yawn out of boredom? That’s a relief, right? We want our cats to worship us, as we do them off course.

One fact that may come as a surprise to you is that cats yawn as a way to peacefully end a standoff with another cat or animal. Has anyone ever witnessed this display? We would love to hear about it on our facebook or twitter page if you have? You can find us on Facebook or Twitter.

Another theory for the yawn, is that it acts as a relaxing stretching mechanism for the jaw muscles, which if you think about it makes a lot of sense. It’s a bit like the downward dog of yoga, except we [cats] don’t like dogs and yoga cuts into your cats 18 hours preciouus sleeping time.

According to Gizmodo and contrary to popular belief, there is no scientific fact to confirm that cats or humans yawn in order to oxygenate the blood. But did you know that yawning can be just as contagious for your cats as it can be to us? Don’t believe us? Well we came across this very cute video on Youtube, so take a look if you fancy a chuckle?

So for whatever reason your cat may yawn, here at PetStayAdvisor we always want Australia’s cats to be able to yawn as they please. That’s why we are here after all! We are all about ensuring your cat can always find that ‘purfect’ place to get that great night’s (or days) sleep whilst you are away, and off course whilst you are at home.

Have a great week folks and see you next time...
