cat and goldfishIs fish doing your cat or dog more harm than good?

We were surprised to find that not only can chocolate be toxic to your pet but so also can Fish!  So we thought it timely to share some informative information about the topic with you just in time for Easter.

Dr. Karen Becker, integrative wellness veterinarian at Mercola believes that feeding your dog or cat fish in his or her diet could be potentially deadly over time. Fish can also responsible for a large percentage of food allergies in cats, according to Petmd. In one study of 56 cats with identifiable food allergies, fish was a responsible ingredient in 13 (23%) of those cases.

Did you know that most fish meals in commercial pet foods contain the potentially deadly preservative ethoxyquin, as well as mycotoxins? Too much fish in your pet’s diet can, over time, create thiamine and vitamin E deficiencies and health problems associated with too much dietary iodine and magnesium.

It needs to be noted however, that fish is still a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which dogs and cats need to be healthy. So your best bet is to serve sardines packed in water, wild caught salmon, and/or supplement your pet’s diet with krill oil. You can read more about fish in your pet’s diet here:
